Indian women’s cricket team defeated West Indies in the ongoing ODI series by 2-1. With the series decider match played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, India chased the target of 195 and won the match by six wickets.
But all eyes were on the Indian team’s star opener, Smriti Mandhana, who was out of action due to a toe injury. In the third ODI, she scored a match winning knock of 74 runs in 63 balls, looking in complete control. Also, Smriti became the third fastest woman to score 2000 ODI runs in 51 innings.
Putting pressure on West Indies bowlers, the Indian women batsmen made it look like a relatively easy run chase. Jemimah Rodrigues scored 69 from 92 balls, Punam Raut and Indian captain Mithali Raj came in and played a small but crucial knock to steer the team towards victory.
After losing the first ODI, the Indian women team, fought back and completed a remarkable series win. Now, the two teams will play a five match T20I series.
