After Vidya Balan as Silk Smitha in ‘The Dirty Picture’, Richa Chadha will portray the titular role in ‘Shakeela’. The trailer of the movie is out!
Based on the life of adult film star, Shakeela who predominantly starred in southern cinema. Making her debut at 16, she featured in 250 controversial and bold films during the late 90s and early 2000s. An aura around her, stars back then used to avoid releasing their films opposite Shakeela.
Directed by Indrajit Lankesh, ‘Shakeela’ also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ester Noronha, Rajeev Pillai and Sheeva Rana. The biopic film portrays the hardships of the actress, how Shakeela faced lots of criticism, insults and betrayals from her family and the film fraternity who were influential in getting her films banned.
The trailer of ‘Shakeela’ is unapologetically powerful with strong performances and storyline, chronicles the rags-to-riches story of how a young girl from a modest Indian home and conservative Muslim background is forced to become an adult star after the untimely death of her father.
Richa Chadha gets into the skin of Shakeela and gives an honest account. ‘Shakeela’ also introduces Pankaj Tripathi’s character, Salim who is a womanizer superstar and eyes newcomers in the film industry but eventually gets threatened by Shakeela’s success.
