It was a sad day for the world as the legendary international opera singer Jessye Norman is no more. The first coloured singer in the Opera society, bid her goodbye to the world on Monday due to multiple organ failure at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital in New York.
The 74-year-old artist is a trendsetter and has received many accolades for her beautiful voice. In her career of over three decades, Norman won four Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Arts and the Kennedy Center Honours.
On her sad demise, many artists from across the globe expressed their grief. American-Canadian singer Rufus Wainwright writes, “The world has lost one of the greatest voices that we have ever had and heard. She poured herself out for us. Rest in peace, dearest Jessye Norman”.

American actress and singer, Audra Mcdonald shared a piece of Jessye’s performance from 1989 on the 200th anniversary of the french revolution, writing, “She was otherworldly. ”.

Meanwhile, Bollywood suffered the loss of veteran actor Viju Khote, known for his role as Kalia in Sholay. The 77-years-old actor has done over 300 films in Hindi and Marathi. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor who shared the screen with Viju Khote in the movie ‘Karz’ wrote, “RIP. Viju Khote. Dear friend over the years. Though much elder,we used to bike together along with sister Shobha Khote ji,when I was young. Passionate and well informed about American films. We will miss you” Viju kutte aahe?”

Extending his support to Khote’s family, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn wrote, “Actors like Viju Khote were institutions by themselves. Their large body of work will always be remembered. I’m fortunate to have worked with him on quite a few films. RIP Sir My heartfelt condolences to the family.”
