As predicted but feared, India’s clash against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-finals was interrupted by rains at Old Trafford Stadium, in Manchester on Tuesday. The match will be played today, the reserve day kept for the tie.
The game was called off after the players were forced off the pitch due to rain and will resume today at 3:00pm IST, with New Zealand continuing to bat at 211/5 after 46.1 overs.
The match will be shortened if required, depending on the weather conditions. The forecast paints a gloomy picture, the sky will be cloudy throughout the day with heavy downpour at times and chances of few bright interludes between the showers is also possible.
Firstly, New Zealand will have to complete their 50-over innings and so does India, if the weather permits. If there is no play today, India will be declared as winners due to higher points, on the points table after the league stage. If rains interrupt the proceedings, the contest will be reduced and India will need to bat at least 20 overs to achieve a result.
Hopefully we get to watch the game today without any pauses! May rain gods have mercy.
