Namrata Purohit, the youngest trained Stott Pilates instructor, keeps her holiday mood in mind. Rooted to her culture, she understands the dietary requirements of an average Indian, and is the expert on subjects of weight loss and maintaining a healthy relationship with food. Looking at all the indulgence during the year, and approaching the new year with a fresh mind set, her strategy for all the cake and chocolate treats is a quirky one (and you won’t need to restrict and count your calories for this one!)
Treats or Cheats?
Namrata mentions how she advises her clients to have a ‘treat meal’ once a week, but considering the aura of festivities, celebration and exhilarating fun and frolic, you can easily bump it up for one treat meal per day! Also, don’t count this as cheating, since New Year’s Eve calls for a celebration with all things sweet.
However, it is best to keep your first meal of the day a healthy and satiating one and also remember to eat a bit before you leave the house for the party. That way you’ll be less likely to overdo the ‘treat’ food.
Leave the Drinks out of the Equation
We have all heard this, but the way Namrata mentions it gives it a different mark. A few glasses of alcohol, soda and cola can easily add up to your daily calorie intake, and unfortunately are not very satisfying, leaving you hungry later on. Try sticking to healthier alternatives like water or coconut water and if you really must then natural and fresh fruit juices.
Be Cautious of the Vicious Cycle
It is easy to get caught in the infamous cycle of starvation and binge eating. Here’s a tip: Don’t guilt trip yourself! It is futile to stress over over-eating, and thus if you’ve made the decision to eat something, enjoy it to the fullest, and definitely do not starve yourself as a punishment for it. Namrata knows the importance of getting back on track, and starving through it won’t help the case. Be optimistic and instead enjoy the celebratory appeal while it lasts!
Try removing some time for a quick workout
If your goal is to live a happy and healthy lifestyle, you can work all you want every day but remove some time for a quick workout, and give your body a breather! One must not get swayed away into the year end mundane mood and get lazy to move your body! Always keep it KISSS: Keep It Safe, Simple and Smart
