Akhil Anand, a Chennai-based teenage artist, is set to present his solo exhibition Morphogenesis, opening on 1st August 2025. The showcase brings together a unique confluence of math, mythology, and nature through intricate patterns and visual storytelling. Deeply inspired by the world around him, Akhil’s work reflects a blend of artistic traditions and scientific curiosity, with an emphasis on how patterns shape our understanding of life and culture.
Having trained under artist Diana Satish since the age of nine, Akhil has developed a deep appreciation for Indian folk and tribal art forms, including Madhubani, Gond, Cheriyal, Pichwai, Kalighat, and Warli. His commitment to authenticity led him to engage directly with local artisans to understand the ethos, process, and stories embedded in these traditional practices. His passion is rooted in a sense of purpose—drawing inspiration from Gandhian values and the cultural directives of the Indian constitution to preserve and popularize heritage art.
Akhil is also the founder of Akhilisms, a creative enterprise that transforms Indian art into wearable and giftable expressions. In collaboration with Hastha, a foundation that trains and supports individuals with neurological challenges in block printing, Akhil designs bespoke apparel that bridges craft, care, and commerce. A self-taught weaver, he is currently exploring the integration of mathematical sequences and sacred geometry in his weaves.
He is also the author of The HeART of Math, a book that explores mathematical patterns in nature, now available on Amazon. His vision for the future is to become an environment and sustainability specialist, using art as a compelling tool for education and advocacy. His inspirations include Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, David Attenborough, and Jane Goodall—figures who represent a commitment to justice, conservation, and change.
Apart from art, Akhil is also passionate about gymnastics, chess, coding, and Spanish. He has previously exhibited at Art Revolution in Mumbai, S.K. Art Gallery and InKo Centre in Chennai, and the India Art Fair in Hyderabad.
Speaking about his upcoming exhibition, Akhil shares, “Art helps me express how I see the world. I enjoy working with different styles and ideas, and I’m excited to share what I’ve been creating. I hope people find something interesting or meaningful in it.”
Morphogenesis will be on view from 1st August 2025. Follow Akhil’s artistic journey on Instagram at @akhilisims.
