Our social media can put out an outrage on almost anything and everything, and this time it is the nail polish. No, we are not fooling around we are actually talking about nail-paint.
Recently the Duchess of Sussex gave a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards where she took the stage, cradling her baby bump, to present an award for British Womenswear Designer of the Year to Clare Waight Keller, her wedding dress designer. The fashion crowd was in an awe seeing Meghan Markle in one shoulder, asymmetrical black velvet gown by Givenchy, metallic Tamara Mellon sandals, stacked gold bracelets in hands adorned with an opaque dark shade of nail polish. But it did not take too long for people to notice that she broke a royal protocol by wearing a dark shade on her nails.
By now we know being a family member of the royal family is no joke, and has to be taken really seriously, which includes tons of rules and protocols which are supposed to be followed strictly in order to maintain the dignity and royalty, that’s the other fact that we don’t understand the royal dignity of the monarchy and alien things like those whatsoever.
Queen Elizabeth II used to consider the coloured nail polish as ‘vulgar’ and was shunned by the members of the royal family, she only uses to wear Essie’s pale pink shade. Since then all the royal ladies follow the rule of opting for nude shades including Kate as well as Meghan herself up until now. Although it is not an official rule, but a protocol is a protocol at the royals we see.
‘There’s no actual protocol about dark nail polish,’ royal correspondent Omid Scobie tells says, ‘it’s simply about being appropriate—we’d never see this at a royal engagement. But tonight’s event is a celebration of fashion and there’s a lot more flexibility on what one can wear.’ While we totally agree to the fact that a fashion event has nothing to do with the palace-approved rules, we also feel that rules like these are definitely meant to be broken and who better than Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markel.
It’s not the first time Meghan Markel, popularly known as the rebel, has shunned royal protocol in her fashion choices boldly. Some of those incidents include not wearing pantyhose during her engagement photo call with Prince Harry and the reports also suggest that during her first outing with the Queen she disregarded instructions from the monarch’s aides to wear a hat for the occasion. The 92-year-old was said to be left baffled by Meghan’s lack of hat on the day.
