Dhoomimal Art Centre, Delhi presents I Remember You from Tomorrow, an exhibition of new works by artist Ratnadeep Adivrekar, opening February 3rd, 2025, in the gallery’s permanent space at Connaught Place, New Delhi. Marking the artist’s first solo presentation in New Delhi, the exhibition spans two floors and includes large paintings and several works on paper.
Ratnadeep, born in Mumbai and currently based in Mumbai and Dubai, is best known for his vivid, colorful paintings that frequently depict works based on experiences, exploring the relationship between philosophies, self, the world, and time as a mode for examining personal interiority. In this exhibition, the artist expands his lens to the realm of devotion, engaging themes of inspired connection to work, art, and the new world.
In creating his latest body of work, Ratnadeep explores themes varying between moments of thought, history, and myth contemplation in an abstract space. He uses the space between reality and imagination as magical realism, blurring the memories of actual events. Surreal aspects are introduced with subjects reading or in contemplation, whether through color extremities or exaggerated elements.
The title work, I Remember You from Tomorrow, illustrates this concept as a frame of inquiry, contemplating devotion— both to creative endeavors and the soul—blending the artist’s studio populated by images of hand and mind in constant dialogue. Astute viewers will note that some paintings depicted in this piece can be found hanging in the gallery exhibition. Ratnadeep places the painter as a summoner, bringing objects into the material world from another realm. Taking cues from performances of the Fluxus period or mythological folklore, Ratnadeep intertwines fierce gestural notes. While engaging with modernism, he flips it, tenderly but decisively, using mythmaking to navigate turbulent times.
The opening of I Remember You from Tomorrow coincides with Delhi Art Fair week; a reception will be held on February 3rd, 2025, Monday, with the presence of the artist.
