Majuli Island, Assam
The area is home to a large number of vaishnavite monasteries which act as a major center of performing arts. Majuli Island region is the biggest river island located between the Brahmaputra river on one side & Kherkutia Xuti river on the other. It provides a totally different habitat to the people living there from the one you would be used to. The people live in Bamboo huts, use fire to cook their food while following the age-old method of fishing and farming to procure food. You can reach Jorhat by Air or Railways and then take up a ferry to Majuli which is the only way to transport there.
Neer Mahal
The Palace which literally translates to ‘The Water Palace’ is situated in Tripura and is not very far from Agartala. It belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Tripura of which famous musicians S D Burman and R D Burman a part of. The palace is a wonderful mix of Hindu and Muslim architecture and is made of marble and sandstone. It sits very comfortably at Rudrasagar Lake and has 24 rooms in total. The length of the palace is around 400 meters. The Neer Mahal is an architectural marvel that draws similarities to the famous lake palace of Udaipur is one of the offbeat places that one should visit.
Vantawang Falls
Situated in the state of Mizoram, the falls are aptly named Vantawang which means “waterfall that touches the heavens”. The height of the waterfall is 750 feet and gets water from the local Vanva river. There are also numerous small waterfalls around which also make a proper tourist attraction. The waterfall is surrounded by green tropical forests that are abundant in bamboo groves. There are a lot of hotels and lodges that are available and make for a perfect overnight stay. The location is easily accessible through roads, rail, and air and can be visited to enjoy a break from regular life in the lap of nature.
Mokokchung
The state of Nagaland is a place full of uniqueness and freshness which is very evident from the lush flora and exotic attractions that you will find there. The famous Tawang Monastery is the nearest landmark to this beautiful mountain peak. It is situated in the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh and is among one of the highest mountain peaks in the region. It offers a very challenging trek to the mountaineers as they try to ascend the peak. It also has small peaks surrounding it which give the amateur trekkers a chance to trek near Gorichen Peak. You can also get a glimpse of the peak when you travel from Bomdilla to Tawang. The famous Nurunang Falls is just 25 km from the peak and makes for a perfect little visit. The famous peak can be visited in the summer months of April, May, and June and post-monsoon month of September.
There are a lot of places in Northeast India that are not very accessible as the hilly regions of Himachal or Uttarakhand. This is why the region is pretty much unexplored when we compare it to other regions. The natural beauty is in abundance there and one should visit the region to experience the same.
