US Open 2020 will always be special, played amidst a global pandemic and the title for men’s as well women’s singles as claimed by young players!
For men’s singles, Dominic Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev to clinch his first Grand Slam title at the US Open, making him the first Austrian to do so. He made a remarkable comeback after losing the first set, winning 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6 (8-6) in the finals played at Flushing Meadows, New York.
Also, runner up Zverev is the youngest men’s finalist in a Grand Slam for a decade. Although he struggled to find his best form, he swung freely and aggressively to take it to Thiem. Apart from that, Thiem is the first player to win the US Open after losing two straight sets since 1949 and also the first player to capture a Grand Slam title from two sets down since 2004.

Meanwhile, Japanese star Naomi Osaka beat Victoria Azarenka to win her second US Open title!
The world number one in women’s singles claimed the trophy after losing the first set against the Belarus player, 1-6, 6-3 and 6-3 in the one hour and 53 minutes game at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Victoria Azarenka lost serve in the seventh game but Osaka broke back and converted her second match point to claim the deciding set and the title.
Wearing Kobe Bryant’s jersey number in the post-match ceremony and wearing different masks with names of people to highlight racial injustice in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, the US Open win was an incredible moment for her!
