Description : Sanya Malik’s Black Cube Gallery presents Divine Manifestation, a solo exhibition by Meena Sansanwal, from 7th to 22nd January 2026, showcasing Meena Sansanwal’s artistic universe as an intricate cosmology in which the female form, divinity, and the fantastical are not merely subjects but living energies. Across paintings, paper mache sculptures, and mixed-media installations produced over nearly a decade, Sansanwal constructs a visual language rooted in union, transformation, and the symbolic theatre of the mind.
Her works emerge from what she describes as a cathartic bridge between the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind, a site where forms are first sculpted within, before taking shape on canvas. At the centre of this cosmology stands the female figure – not as a portrait of womanhood alone, but as a primordial vessel, the Shakti and Prakriti from which all other forms emanate. Across her practice, the female body becomes a cosmic mandala, containing the five elements, the cyclical rhythms of nature, and the ascent toward higher consciousness. The body becomes landscape, sanctuary, stairway, and fertile ground upon which the apple tree of life grows. This fusion of body and cosmos is a hallmark of her practice: the woman is simultaneously mundane and transcendental, earthly and divine. Her engagement with the feminine expands into mythic and archetypal realms, exploring the maiden, mother, and sage: three aspects of womanhood drawn from global mythologies and Jungian archetypes. These forms subconsciously tap the unconscious self, evolving into biomorphic and polymorphic amalgams where woman, landscape, and animal interpenetrate. Here, the feminine is not linear but cyclical; not singular but infinitely plural. This interplay of female divinity, mythic animal companions, and fantastic metaphors of the mind reveals Meena Sansanwal’s practice as a sustained journey of inner excavation. Each artwork is an act of self-discovery, a step toward what she calls “a trance-like state” where creation flows through divine energy. Her forms are fluid, multilayered, and luminous – inviting viewers into a world where the sacred and the surreal intermingle, where the feminine is the cosmos itself, and where imagination becomes a pathway to spiritual awakening.
Artist Bio –
Meena Sansanwal, born in 1971, received her graduation as well as post graduation degree in painting from Delhi college of Art in the year 1994 and1997 respectively. Meena strongly believes that there is an innate vital sense that urges her to paint. She is greatly inspired to channel her imagination by employing bright colours and patterns with themes drawn from culture and popular illustration-like imagery. Her vibrant, intuitive practice draws on Indian cultural motifs, folk traditions, and popular illustration styles. Her richly patterned, symbolic works blend playfulness with emotional depth, creating fantastical yet familiar worlds. Using vivid colours and stylised forms, she explores imagination, memory, and the subconscious. Rooted in traditional craft yet contemporary in tone, her paintings reflect an ongoing dialogue between inner narrative and cultural memory. Meena’s work explores the union of nature and the universe as a source of energy, vibration, and rhythm – mirroring the organic flow of time and space. Through polymorphic and biomorphic forms, she expresses patterns of the subconscious mind using symmetry, abstraction, repetition, and reflection. Her practice symbolizes a portal into the eternal garden of the mind – where natural elements, dreamscapes, and imagined forms converge. Drawing from meditation, fantasy, and inner landscapes, her art becomes a cathartic process, revealing the interconnectedness of body, mind, and soul.
