This was Real Madrid’s first final appearance in UEFA Youth League after having been eliminated at the semifinal stage in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Before half-time, the club was 2-0 but in the thrilling second half, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Luis Lopez stopped a penalty shot from Benfica’s captain Thiago Dantas. Also, full-back Miguel Gutierrez restored Real Madrid’s lead and helped the club lift the trophy.
All credits for making the team so strong goes to Raul Gonzalez, who played for Real Madrid before retiring in 2015, second highest goal scorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo. Defeating Juventus, Inter Milan and Salzburg, Real Madrid is the champions of UEFA Youth League for the very first time!
