Veteran music composer Mohammed Zahur ‘Khayyam’ Hashmi popular by his pen name ‘Khayyam’, passed away at the age of 92 after prolonged illness, in Mumbai on Monday. The Padma Bhushan awardee was admitted to Sujay Hospital in suburban Juhu a few days ago owing to breathing issues and other age-related illnesses.
Several celebrities from the music and film fraternity paid homage to the iconic music composer remembering his songs on his sudden demise. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi took some time off from his busy schedule to pay his respect to the legendary ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ song composer, who is remembered for his humanitarian gestures to support new artists.

Calling his death to be an end of an era of great music, veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar also paid her tribute to Khayyam. In a series of tweets Lata Mangeshkar reminisced about her work with the perfectionist of the music industry.

Along with them legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, who played the role of Amit in the movie ‘Kabhie Kabhie’, also shared a post on his social media handle writing, “a legend in music .. a soft spoken amiable soul .. one that contributed to several films and some of the more important ones of mine .. passes away .. KHAYAM sahib .. for all the memorable music he conducted and produced .. prayers condolences ”

From being one of the greatest music composers to the most amiable soul, Khayyam made his place in the hearts of millions through his evergreen music. Even though he bid adieu to the world, he will remain immortal through his work.
