Today marks a special event in the calendar of the United States. Celebrated as Women’s Equality Day, on this day the nation had made a nineteenth amendment in their constitution, where women secured suffrage after the country became independent in the year 1776.
The long- battled legal fight for getting equal voice in politics, was agitated back in the 1800s when several women’s right group and suffrage groups pitched in for a change while the final documentation and ratification in the Constitution was passed by then Secretary of State Brainbridge Colby on 26 August, 1920.
Celebrating the centenary anniversary of an face- changing event of the US, the nations Ambassador to India, Ken Juster, took to his official Twitter handle to write, “Today, we mark the 100th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, securing for women the right to vote. On this #WomensEqualityDay, we honor those across the world who continue to work for gender equality.”
