~Interior designer Yesha Gada of YG Design Studio transforms a column-free raw apartment into a fluid 4BHK Lodha Mumbai residence defined by ripples, arches, and understated material richness~
Mumbai, March 2026: Starting with nothing but a silent shell, no walls, no columns, and no spatial boundaries, interior designer Yesha Gada approached this 2,000 sq. ft. residence in Mumbai as a blank canvas for spatial storytelling. Designed by YG Design Studio, the four-bedroom home reimagines the idea of understated luxury, where craftsmanship, architectural flow, and tactile materials quietly take center stage.
The project began with a rare opportunity: a completely raw flat. Without the constraints of structural interruptions, the design team was able to sculpt the interior environment from the ground up, shaping a fluid plan that houses a master suite, parents’ bedroom, kids’ room, guest bedroom, along with a study nook and a serene mandir.
At the heart of the design lies what the studio calls “The Ripple Effect.” This motif becomes the visual and emotional anchor of the home. In the living room, a sculptural ripple ceiling installation creates a rhythmic interplay of curves and light, immediately drawing the eye upward while softening the architectural envelope. The same language continues in the bespoke mandir doors, where layered ripple patterns reinterpret spiritual symbolism through a contemporary lens.
Speaking about the project, Yesha Gada, Founder and Principal Designer at YG Design Studio, shares:
“When we first walked into the apartment, it was a completely raw shell with no columns or spatial definitions. That gave us the rare opportunity to sculpt the home from scratch. The idea was to create a space that felt fluid and calming rather than rigid, which is where the ripple concept came in. The curves, arches, and layered textures are designed to guide movement gently through the home, while the materials bring warmth and quiet sophistication. For us, luxury here isn’t about excess; it’s about rhythm, balance, and spaces that feel timeless yet deeply personal.”
Rather than relying on rigid spatial divisions, the layout uses arches and gentle radius forms to guide movement throughout the home. Doorways curve instead of cut, allowing spaces to transition organically. This architectural softness establishes a sense of calm continuity and intentional contrast to the often boxy geometry of urban apartments.
The passageway becomes a functional spine of the home, discreetly integrating a quiet study corner and a dedicated mandir space without interrupting circulation. It’s an example of how the design transforms transitional areas into purposeful moments within the spatial narrative.
Materiality further reinforces the concept of quiet luxury. Expansive marble flooring anchors the interiors with a sense of permanence, while tactile surfaces, fluted cabinetry, textured wall claddings, and matte finishes, introduce warmth and depth. In the master bedroom, fluted oak panels paired with brushed gold accents create a restrained yet sophisticated headboard wall, while soft textiles and neutral palettes enhance the sense of calm.
Each bedroom introduces subtle shifts in personality without disrupting the overall aesthetic language. The kids’ room embraces a livelier spirit, while the balcony features earthy travertine tones that evoke a sunset-like warmth against the otherwise neutral palette.
Instead of relying on overt ornamentation, the home celebrates craft, proportion, and texture. Matte finishes replace gloss, curves replace sharp edges, and materials are chosen for how they feel as much as how they look. The result is a residence where luxury is experienced quietly through the rhythm of architectural forms and the subtle layering of material detail.
What began as a raw void ultimately emerges as a harmonious, fluid sanctuary, where architecture, craft, and spirituality coexist within a calm and timeless design language.
