Saif Ali Khan is one of the most versatile actors in the Hindi film industry. Currently the Nawab of Pataudi, he made his Bollywood debut in Yash Chopra film Parampara (1992) while his claim to fame came in the coming-of-age film about three best friends, Dil Chahta Hai (2001).
He is a highly awarded actor and won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Hum Tum (2004). But even off the reel, this Bollywood Khan never fails to make us laugh whether it is on-screen or off-screen with his hilarious experiences.
Like Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Bollywood Nawab Khan has quite the sense of humour. We have all seen his excellent tongue in cheek moments with SRK while hosting Filmfare Awards – pretty hilarious and witty at best, don’t you think? More recently, Saif has been getting raving reviews for his role as a Sikh cop in a hit web series, Sacred Games.
Yesterday, Khan celebrated his 48th birthday with family and friends. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan made the day a memorable one.
On this special occasion, let’s take a look at five such interviews where the birthday boy tickled out our funny bone:
Soha Ali Khan’s date
The Hum Tum actor narrated a story about her sister’s date during an interview where he was promoting Soha Ali Khan’s book. The actor revealed the hilarious moment while talking about a date that happened.
Incidentally, Soha went on a date with an industrialist and found him really boring. She ended up texting that fact, but instead of sending it to a friend, she accidentally sent it to the guy she was on a date with. And in a bid to salvage the situation, she asked the guy if she could borrow his phone. She took it, opened the text, deleted it and continued with the dinner. Amused with the story himself, Saif quipped, ‘this is my sister, this is Soha.’
Aashik Aawara
In a recent interview with film critic Anupama Chopra on FC Unfiltered, Saif gave lots of fun anecdotes about one of the first songs he shot – ‘Main Hoon Aashik’ – from the film Aashik Aawara.
The actor, famous for his two left feet, revealed how nerve-racking his experience while shooting for sequences with Saroj Khan as the choreographer. The actor shared some of the moments. While shooting, his knees were bleeding thanks to his rigorous steps. But Saif managed. Even Akshay Kumar was amused seeing his dance number but still made fun of his dance moves even today. Interestingly, the black leather tasselled jacket he wore for the song, was from his personal collection since he did not really like the multi-coloured, oversized blazers that the ‘90s heroes were infamous for!
Nick Names
In another section of the same talk with Chopra where Saif was asked to answer a few questions, he exposed that he was really upset growing up that he didn’t have a nickname! So he used to make up nicknames for himself. For eg: ‘Ace’.
But when Saif was asked about the fan nickname given to his wife Kareena and him, the actor’s reaction was priceless. Saifeena clearly was not his favourite.
When he goofed up Katrina Kaif’s age
During the promotional exercise for IIFA awards, alongside producer-director Karan Johar and actor Varun Dhawan, Saif learnt that Katrina Kaif’s birthday was on the coming 16th of the month. Instead, he guessed that it was her 16th birthday! While the crowd guffawed at the folly, Saif took it in his stride.
Evolution of Film Titles
In this interview with a British You Tuber Brits Bollywood, Saif was seen promoting his film Cocktail. When asked why the name was chosen as Cocktail, Saif shared that they considered naming it something more desi – like ‘Lahu Ke Do Rang’ – or some sort of a lyric from an old song, but decided against it. We are glad they did!
Saif Ali Khan will be seen next in the Nikhil Advani’s upcoming film Bazaar.
