August 28 – 31, 2025 | Main Art Gallery, Kamaladevi Complex, IIC, New Delhi
The India International Center inaugurated “A Lunatic in the Woods,” a solo art exhibition by Gurgaon-based artist Supriya Sathe on August 28th, 2025 and will run until August 31st, 2025, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, at the Main Art Gallery, Kamaladevi Complex, India International Center, New Delhi.
Featuring 48 works in acrylic on canvas, Sathe’s new body of work blends earthly landscapes with celestial imagination. Birch trees, silver moons, icy satellites, and imagined horizons come together in surreal stillness. The collection is at once intimate and expansive, evoking awe at the beauty that surrounds us.
At the heart of this exhibition lies the question: “Am I a lunatic because I look at you, or am I a lunatic because you look at me?”
For Sathe, lunacy is not in seeing, but in forgetting to see. Her paintings are a reminder of the everyday wonder in the world – the hush of forests, the glow of moonlight, skies humming with mystery, and the possibility of worlds beyond.
As she reveals her exquisite collection, Supriya says, “This collection is about seeing, truly seeing; the quiet, breathtaking beauty of being alive on this Earth, of looking up and around, and finding wonder waiting quietly in plain sight.”
About the Artist
Born in 1985, Supriya Sathe lives and works in Gurgaon. A landscape artist working primarily with acrylics on canvas, her style is marked by surreal, bold colours and textured strokes that breathe life into her canvases. Having lived in the UK and travelled extensively, Sathe draws inspiration from the sea, mountains, and forests—spaces of stillness that uplift the soul and restore peace.
Sathe has previously exhibited her works across India, the UK, and the US, with solo and group shows at Lalit Kala Academy, India International Centre, Nehru Centre (London), State Gallery of Fine Arts (Hyderabad), and Arterie Fine Arts (Chicago). “A Lunatic in the Woods” marks her latest exploration of landscapes that blur the lines between Earth and sky, reality and imagination.
