from November 24th to 30th, 2025 at Annexe Art Gallery, India International Centre, New Delhi
Delhi is set to witness an evocative showcase of art and emotion as Vandana Krishna, a Mumbai-based self-taught artist and bureaucrat, presents her solo exhibition “Reflections” at the India International Centre – Annexe Art Gallery, 40, Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi. The exhibition opens on Monday, November 24th, 2025, inaugurated at 5:30pm by Padmashri Geeta Chandran, renowned classical dancer and cultural icon. The exhibition will remain on view till November 30th, 2025, 11 am to 7 pm daily.
The inaugural evening will be graced by distinguished guests including Dr. Sanjeev Chopra, Senior Fellow, Prime Minister’s Museum & Library and EC Member IIC; Ms. Rashmi Chopra, Chairperson, Valley of Words Foundation; Dr. Anup Wadhawan, Former Commerce Secretary; and Ms. Neerja Chowdhury, Award-winning Journalist, Author, and Commentator.
The idea for “Reflections” emerged one quiet evening when Vandana Krishna found herself looking back on her life — her Delhi roots, her years of service across Maharashtra, and her life today in Mumbai. “Those early years of learning new languages, adapting to new cultures, and finding my place in a different world shaped both the person and the artist I became,” she says. “Mumbai, with its pace, energy, and contradictions, became my muse, after all it is a city that reflects life in motion.”
Through “Reflections,” Vandana captures Mumbai’s ever-changing essence — its glass-clad towers, seaside vistas, rain-soaked streets, and mirrored distortions that hold both chaos and calm. Her semi-abstract style invites viewers to see beyond the surface, to find poetry in urban reflections and stillness in the midst of movement.
Influenced by artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Vermeer, Matisse, and Klimt, and inspired by Indian masters like M. F. Husain and F. N. Souza, Vandana’s work balances bold strokes with nuanced tones. Her compositions hover between representation and abstraction, blending precision with emotion, and discipline with freedom.
For Vandana, painting has always been more than a pastime — it is a practice of reflection, mindfulness, and balance. Over the past eighteen years, she has pursued her art, finding in it a space for expression, stillness, and meaning.
About The Artist
Vandana Krishna has successfully balanced two worlds — the rigor and responsibility of public service, and the creative freedom of art. For over eighteen years, she has painted with a quiet dedication, often finding time for her canvas amid the demands of administrative life.
Her artistic journey began in childhood, nurtured by a natural curiosity for color and form. Deeply drawn to the Impressionist movement and its emphasis on light, atmosphere, and emotional immediacy, Vandana’s works reflect the influence of the European & Indian Masters whose boldness of form and spirit deeply resonate with her.
Vandana’s art spans a spectrum of expression — from vivid, energetic brushstrokes that capture movement, to subtle, layered compositions that evoke introspection. Her visual language combines representation and abstraction, allowing viewers to discover their own meanings within her narratives. In her recent works, the play of reflection becomes a recurring theme — a metaphor for how perception shapes reality.
She believes that the purest form of art is abstraction, where the artist’s hand and mind move freely beyond literal meaning. Yet, even in her semi-abstract pieces, Vandana remains rooted in the tangible — the pulse of the city, the light after rain, the quiet grace of ordinary moments.
Her works have been widely appreciated for their depth and sensitivity, at her two Solo Exhibitions at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and are part of the permanent collection at Si Bambai, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. Vandana continues to evolve as an artist, drawing inspiration from life’s everyday scenes, from cities and seas, and from the reflections — both external and inner — that define human experience.
