A day to remember for Indian sports!

Abhishek Verma won the gold medal and Saurabh Chaudhary won the bronze in the men’s 10m air pistol event of the World Cup held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Verma shot 244.2 and Saurabh shot 221.9 in the finals to secure the medals, ending the second day of the competition on a high note.

 

Sanjeev Rajput has secured India’s eighth Olympic quota in shooting and won a silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle event at the World Cup as well.

 

Minister of State of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Riju congratulated the 38 year-old shooter on his win and performance on Twitter.

 

The Indian shooters showed their dominance in this event. The Indian contingent has already exhausted the maximum Olympic quotas available per country in this event.

On the other hand, India’s boxing icon MC Mary Kom was named the ‘best female athlete’ at the Awards for Asia ceremony organized by Asian Sportswriters Union (AIPS Asia). The six time world champion bagged the award as she has exploited the Asian women boxing scene.

 

World number 11 male boxer Gaurav Bidhuri congratulated Mary Kom on being crowned as Asia’s best female athlete on Twitter.
