What is active recovery? An active recovery workout can involve performing low-intensity exercises following a strenuous workout. This may include walking, yoga, and swimming. Active recovery is often considered more beneficial than inactivity, resting completely, or sitting because it keeps the blood flowing leading to fast recovery. Robin Behl, co-founder at The Tribe, shares with us 4 active recovery workouts.

1. A cool-down following a workout:

This is an important one at The Tribe. This can be anything – a 10-min walk post a jog session or an easy pace stationary bike movement post HIIT or weightlifting. At The Tribe, we dedicate the last 10 minutes of the session to stretching and a few mindfulness practices.

2. Include brisk walking or jogging the day following a strenuous workout:

Walking has great benefits. It not only is a form of cardio and makes the blood flow throughout the body but is also light in intensity and helps recover the muscles the day after an intense workout session.

3. Practice yoga or tai chi:

Both forms of workouts help stretch sore muscles and increase flexibility. It is also very relaxing and aids in reducing and controlling stress and inflammation.

4. Between exercise sets:

Movement is key, even in between exercise sets. Instead of resting completely by sitting down after every drill, try to move. This can simply be walking around the gym or wherever you’re working out. The point is to keep moving.
