Each year, Mexico celebrates Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, a festival that honors life by remembering those who came before. It is a time when families come together to celebrate memory, love, and legacy. At the House of Paloma in Bandra, this sentiment finds a quiet, heartfelt reflection. Built on a foundation of art, agave, and storytelling, House of Paloma is a cocktail-forward space that draws inspiration from Latin American culture not just in its flavors, but in its soul.
The bar’s art-driven interiors echo the reverence for art and rituals that define Latin traditions, when you enter House of Paloma, you’re greeted by the Paloma Man, which is set on an altar surrounded by candles, light reflecting from the mirrors and dances across its form. Around the space, Paloma Cats,, and the small masks tucked between artworks bring whimsy and character to the space.
The bar pays homage to Mexico’s agave traditions with cocktails that speak to memory and ritual through craft and flavor. The Mamacita blends the tang of kokum and raw mango brine with tequila’s clean brightness. The Dirty Margarita reimagines the classic with a savory depth and a hint of fire, playful and assertive in equal measure. Paloma 1950, the bar’s namesake, remains a tribute to simplicity and spirit, bright, refreshing, and unmistakably Latin in character while Don Pablo closes the experience made with Patrón Reposado, Amaro, and Ross, giving it a deep, herbal, and slightly bittersweet close. Playful rituals like the communal Arriba, Abajo, Al Centro, Pa Dentro shot tie the program back to its roots of togetherness and celebration.
The kitchen crafts plates that mirror the vibrancy and generosity of Latin American cooking. The Amber Sweet Crunch, a crisp sweet potato filled with green pea and truffle cream, lands with comfort and surprise. The Cauliflower Taco celebrates one of Mexico’s most beloved forms, with roasted cauliflower, silky purée, and a bold hit of salsa macha. The Lamb Taco slow-braises lamb with smoked pineapple salsa and avocado, blending heat, sweetness, and soul in every bite. The Wings Affair brings the spirit of the cantina, chipotle-glazed and slow-grilled in a rich beer reduction, while Chipotle Lamb pairs fiery depth with herb chimichurri and artichoke purée, all the dishes best shared, with laughter and stories that linger long after the meal.
This Día de los Muertos, House of Paloma honors the festival not through spectacle, but through spirit, in the art that surrounds it, the cocktails that celebrate craft and culture, and the warmth that fills its tables. A quiet tribute to life, memory, and the beauty of being together, a reminder that every gathering, like every story, lives on through the people who share it.
