Founder & Creative Head: Pooja Chidre
● Journey of House of Vaarasa:Pooja is a visionary entrepreneur with a deep passion for Indian textiles and craftsmanship. A computer engineer by education, she graduated from MIT,Pune, and later pursued specialized courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York.
Her journey into the world of luxury handloom sarees was shaped by her mother’s treasured Banarasi real zari Shalu—a saree that ignited her passion for handloom and led her to embark on a mission to revive India’s rich textile heritage.
During her time abroad, she was deeply inspired by the immersive retail
experiences offered by high-end brands like Anthropologie. However, she
was struck by the realization that many of their exquisite products were
‘Made in India’ but lacked an Indian brand’s representation on the global
stage. This sparked a mission within her—to elevate India’s rich textile
heritage and present it to the world with the prestige it deserves.
Determined to rewrite this narrative, Pooja founded House of Vaarasa in
2019, focusing on authentic, handcrafted textiles made using pure and
natural materials of the highest quality. Over the years, the brand has grown
from an online-only business to launching a flagship store in Hubballi,
Karnataka, with a strong presence in exhibitions across India and abroad.
Her mother’s Banarasi real zari Shalu was the first saree she was
determined to recreate, and this revival became the foundation of House of
Vaarasa’s journey. This deep appreciation for heritage crafts now finds
expression in the brand’s latest collection, the ‘Banarasi Shalu Edit’ or
‘Lagan Sarai,’ a tribute to timeless craftsmanship and tradition.
Pooja’s vision is to establish House of Vaarasa as a global name
synonymous with luxury Indian handloom sarees, celebrating tradition
while making it relevant for the modern woman. She envisions her brand as
one of the few that truly uphold the authenticity of pure real zari handloom
sarees, crafted with precision, love, and respect for India’s textile heritage.
