Five Indian boxers, Vikas Krishan, Pooja Rani, Satish Kumar, Lovlina Borgohain and Ashish Kumar, have secured spots in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics by advancing to the semifinals of the Asian Qualifiers. They are the first set of Indian boxers to qualify for the Olympics.

In the 75kg women’s event, Pooja Rani notched up a 5-0 win over Thailand’s Pornnipa Chutee and booked her seat for the 2020 Olympics.

 

For the men’s 68 kg bout, Vikas Krishnan endured dominance from opponent Japanese Okazawa. He entered the Olympics for the third time by winning 5-0 against the Asian silver medalist.

 

Later on, two-time bronze medalist in the World Championship, Lovlina Borgohain had a commanding win over Uzbekistan’s Maftunakhon Melieva, 5-0 in the women’s 69kg match.

 

With an intense bout faced by Asian silver medalist Ashish Kumar in the men’s 75kg match, he had a 5-0 win over Indonesia’s Maikhel Muskita. With this he not only secured an Olympics berth but also moved to the semifinals of the Asian Qualifiers.

 

Satish Kumar became the fifth boxer to head towards the Tokyo Olympics. To claim his position, the boxer overthrew Mongolian Daivii Otgonbayar, 5-0 in the 91kg bout.
