Dr. Abhijit Banerjee and Dr. Esther Duflo received the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.

Guess what caught our attention?

The Nobel Laureates, who are married to each other deviated from the dress code of wearing suits and evening gowns. Both Duflo and Banerjee wore traditional Indian attire to receive the award at the Concert Hall in Stockholm, Sweden.

In a nod to his Bengali roots, 58-year-old Banerjee wore a cream colour kurta with a white gold bordered dhoti and closed neck black vest. His wife, Duflo donned a blue-green silk saree with a red blouse and red bindi.

In a tweet posted by the Nobel Prize committee, one can see the economists’ couple receiving the award.

That was some swag!
