Defeating Dominic Thiem, the Serbian player faced a tough challenge before picking the trophy. In the five set match, Djokovic endured all the attacks by clinching the title, 6-4 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Being a thriller final, Novak reclaimed his world number one ranking by defending the Australian Open title. He has never lost a match at Melbourne Park and the defending champion lifted the Grand Slam for the eighth time.

Not only did Djokovic win the Australian Open for the eighth time, he broke records as well. No other player in the Open Era tennis has won this tournament more than six times. The reigning tennis court king adds this eighth Australian Open win to his five Wimbledon titles, three US Open crowns and one French Open trophy. In total, the Serbian has 17 Grand Slams under his hood!
