The major spotlight was on Annu Rani in Javelin throw and she did not disappoint us. The 25-year-old athlete registered an easy win, bagging the gold medal with her extraordinary start. Earlier, she has set the National records in the javelin throw at 62.43 meters in World Athletics Championship held at Doha.
This year’s National Open Championship was also looking forward for the return of Neeraj Chopra in Javelin throw events but the player withdrew from the games to recover from his previous injuries. Neeraj was diagnosed with an elbow injury last year while he was practising at Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Other highlights of the games are sprinter Muhammed Anas Yahiya, whose recent performance at Doha Championship made India enter the finals of 4*400m relay event, and National record holder, Dutee Chand.
The Athletic Federation of India (AFI) also rejected the entries of 46 athletes: 37 men and 9 women seeking to represent Manipur despite not belonging to the state.
As it is International Girl Child Day, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports commemorated the day by sharing a picture of all the Indian female athletes who made India proud on the international platform.
