Music maestro Ghulam Mustafa Khan left for heavenly abode at the age of 89 at his residence in Mumbai. He had suffered a brain stroke in the year 2019, post which the left side of the Hindustani Classical singer was paralyzed.

On his sudden and sad demise, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind shared his condolences to the family by writing, “Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan was a legend of Indian classical music. I feel honoured to have conferred on him Padma Vibhushan in 2018. In his passing, music world has lost not only a doyen but also a mentor for young generation. Heartfelt condolence to his family,friends & disciples.”

 

Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan was born on 3 March, 1931 and hailed from Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. He has been a guru to many legendary names of the Bollywood Industry including  Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Geeta Dutt, A. R. Rahman, Hariharan, Shaan and Sonu Nigam to name a few. He was conferred Padma Shri award in 1991 and was awarded with the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Padmabhushan, and Padma Vibhushan later in his life.

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also shared a photo with the classical singer and called his demise a loss to the cultural world. In his Twitter note, PM Narendra Modi also wrote, “He was a doyen of music, a stalwart of creativity whose works endeared him to people across generations. I have fond memories of interacting with him.” and sent his prayers to the bereaved family.
