After months of cancellation and postponement, Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Opening Day is here!

The first pitch of the opening game was done by Dr Anthony Fauci, a hero during the coronavirus pandemic in the States. The ball was chased down by Nationals relief pitcher Sean Doolittle at the Dodger Stadium in Washington, USA.

World Series champion, Washington Nationals and one of baseball’s all-time winning teams, New York Yankees played the first MLB game. The Yankees won game 4-1 but there was an eerie silence in the empty stands with no fans allowed in the ballpark.

Just before the first game was held, teams and players came together on the center stage for Black Lives Matter (BLM). The left sleeves of few players’ jerseys had patches of BLM and teams kneed on the field to show that they stand in solidarity with the community to fight for racial and social justice.

Also, just before the opening game of Major League Baseball, the players union along with this tournament’s heads made a decision to expand the playoffs from ten teams to 16 for the pandemic delayed season.
