New Zealand Jolted By Three Quakes

New Zealand has been hit by three powerful earthquakes which also has triggered the Tsunami warning, leading to evacuations in the North Island.

At around 9 am local time, the first quake hit the Kermadec Islands which was about 8.1 magnitude. Ahead of it 7.4 and 7.2-magnitude quakes have also hit the other sides of the island nation.

Soon after this, the National Emergency Management Agency issued a warning about the Tsunami and also shared it over their social media page stating: “TSUNAMI WARNING issued following Kermadecs earthquake. People near coast from the BAY OF ISLANDS to WHANGAREI, from MATATA to TOLAGA BAY, and GREAT BARRIER ISLAND must MOVE IMMEDIATELY to nearest high ground, out of all tsunami evacuation zones, or as far inland as possible”.

However, currently the Tsunami threat in New Zealand has been downgraded and the NZ Emergency management has also shared the details about the risk ridden zones.

AREAS UNDER BEACH AND MARINE THREAT:

The North Cape from AHIPARA to the BAY OF ISLANDS,

the East Coast of the North Island from CAPE RUNAWAY to TOLAGA BAY, and GREAT BARRIER ISLAND,

and the CHATHAM ISLANDS.

There is no tsunami threat in all other areas.
