Tokyo Olympics, we are coming your way!

At the World Wrestling Championship, Indian wrestlers have made India proud!

In the 65 kg bout, Bajrang Punia lost the semi-final against Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov under controversial circumstances but has secured his place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Now, Bajrang will fight for the bronze medal at the World Championship.

On the other hand, Indian wrestler and debutant, Ravi Dahiya, also lost his semi-final bout   4-6 to reigning world champion, Zaur Uguev from Russia. But, he has made it to the Tokyo Olympics in 57kg event and will fight for the bronze.

Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat has clinched the bronze medal at the World Championships, held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Defeating the two-time world bronze medallist Maria Prevolaraki of Greece in the 53 kg freestyle event, she has become the talk of the town. Vinesh is the fourth Indian female wrestler to win a medal at this prestigious tournament. Also this win is a double delight, now she has won at all the major wrestling tournaments and has secured a seat in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Thanking her family, team, fans and friends, Vinesh penned down an emotional note on her Instagram, writing, “Finally the wait has finished and the journey has begun! 💪 What was left unfinished in Rio, the journey to retake it in Tokyo has begun strongly with this here at #WrestleNurSultan! I am extremely happy to bring home a medal for 🇮🇳 and a Tokyo 2020 quota! Though I am quite pleased with my first ever medal at the World Championship against some of the best wrestlers in the world in a new weight category, I know I can do much better! ✌️✌️Time to work hard again for a better result at Tokyo Olympics!!! All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the constant and generous support my sponsored, my family, coach Akos Woller, physio Rucha Kashalkar. Thank you to everyone for their amazing support, motivation, and love!!! 😊🙏”.
