ISRO has announced the launch of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F10). The satellite will launch with the help of Geo Imaging Satellite (GISAT-1) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre located in Sriharikota on 5 March, subject to weather conditions.
Weighing about 2268 kg, GISAT-1 is the first state-of-the-art agile Earth observation satellite which will be placed in orbit by GSLV-F10. It will reach the final geostationary orbit using its on-board propulsion system.
Being the 14 flight of the GSLV, a four metre diameter payload is being flown for the first time in the GISAT-1. Operating from geostationary orbit, the satellite will facilitate near real time observation of the Indian sub-continent at frequent intervals and under cloud free conditions.
If GSLV-F10 is launched successfully, on 5 March, India will write its name in bold under space achievements!
