Even Bollywood superstars get over their daily grind to take the taste of rewris, gajjak and other special delicacies and rejoice the harvest festival. January 14, the most appealing day of this month is here. Lohri, also known as the fruitage or harvest festival which brings good luck, joy and wealth in lives of all, is celebrated by one and all. And also, Lohri is widely celebrated in northern states, Pongal in the southern region and Bihu in the east. The varied festivals mark the opening of India’s harvest season.
To celebrate Lohri, people gather around a bonfire and throw sweets, popcorns and puffed rice in the blaze. Also, people move around the fire and sing Lohri songs. Also in other parts of the country, with the change in weather, the days become longer and nights become shorter as well. Dedicated to Lord Surya, the God of Sun, most people travel north to take a dip in the holy river, Ganga.
