In Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St. Lucia, a thirty year old record was broken by a 15-year-old Shafali Verma. The Haryana teenager became the youngest Indian cricketer to score her maiden half-century while playing against West Indies. Earlier the record was held by none other than our ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar who at the age of sixteen scored a half-century.

Congratulating Shafali on her half-century feat, the BCCI Women social media post reads, “The explosive 15-year-old Shafali Verma scored her maiden half-century in the first T20I against West Indies Women today in St Lucia. Shafali is the youngest Indian ever to score an int’l fifty #TeamIndia”.

It became more joyous for Shafali as Indian Women’s Cricket team took the lead 1-0 against team West Indies in their first day of a five day T20I series.

The magic of Shafali did not stop there. With her explosive performance on the field, team India registered another win on the second day of their ongoing T20I series. The match also witnessed some outstanding performances from the all-rounder Deepti Sharma who took four wickets by giving just 10 runs.
