Much awaited lists for the Best FIFA Football Awards for the Men’s and Women’s Player and Men’s and Women’s Coach, have been revealed.
The shortlist consists of 42 names among four categories, from five continents. They are selected by two panels of experts, for men and women, and are determined on the basis of their on-field performance and overall behaviour on and off the pitch.
As usual, they consider their outstanding performances in the last 12 months. For women’s players this year they have 12 nominees instead of ten, since few players tied on points during the nomination process.
The shortlist comprises 12 names instead of 10 since, per article 5 of the Rules of Allocation, in the event of a tie, "the shortlist may be expanded to include all nominees receiving the same number of votes as the nominee in the last position."

The decision for these awards will be decided by the players, the coaches, the fans and the media,who will vote on the official website of FIFA. Each of their voting will weigh 25 percent in the final result. The three finalists for each award will be revealed at a later date, and the winners will be announced in a ceremony on 23 September, in Milan.
