Women’s Day is here and even with our immense efforts, we haven’t gained much in terms of equality and women’s rights. So, let’s take a resolution for never giving up on it while striving to reach the goals, removing all the stereotyping associated with the Word ‘Female’.

On this special occasion, let’s spend our day watching some of the short films which are women-centric, capturing the sufferings that exist in a woman’s world because of a biased society.

1. Devi:

A Royal Stag Barrel short film with many eminent women of the Indian Film industry, ‘Devi’ got released on 2 March and we are dumbstruck after watching the disturbing truth that will give goosebumps every time you watch it. It is an honest, ugly tale to which each and every woman can relate. It throws light on the dark, hidden and unspoken truth that the reason behind any ill-act is the mindset of the people, not the victim. The movie is a satire on the attitude of India where a woman is treated as Devi or Goddess in mythology while being deprived of the basic rights and protections in reality.

2. That Day After Everyday:

Anurag Kashyap’s small gritty film focuses on the ill-psychology of the society wherein every occasion of misbehaviour, a woman becomes the root cause and just a small act of courage from a bunch of women changes the attitude of their family members. The movie shows how eve-teasing has become a very common issue which knowingly or unknowingly many women choose to ignore, which is not at all fair. Focusing on the subject that how everyone looks at a girl as their personal asset, ‘That Day After Everyday’ has all the right elements which make it one of a kind.

3. Juice:

A heart-touching simple story which shows the patriarchal society in full glory, where just a small step of not following a single instruction of a man is termed as a “rebelling”. The movie shows how society has different strata where men are considered to be the superior race, who work and post-work are supposed to just enjoy, while women have a place only inside the house especially in the kitchen. In the entire run time of the movie, there are various stereotypical attitudes being depicted and questioned, showing us how since our childhood without noticing we just oblige to it.
