Updates From Women’s Cricket

White Ferns has named Sophie Devine as the permanent New Zealand captain, taking over Amy Satterthwaite who will now be the vice-captain of the team.

The all-rounder Sophie Devine has played 105 ODI and 91 T20I for the national team, aggregating 4954 runs and 158 wickets. With Amy gone on  maternity leave, Sophie took over the captaincy and her strong leadership led to her being offered the captaincy.

Calling this a huge honor and privilege, Sophie Devine is ready to take the team and cricket to the right direction. Now, the pre-season of the New Zealand women’s cricket team will start training from next week onwards before getting back to action in Australia in late September.

Meanwhile, South African women cricket team’s head coach Hilton Moreeng has been re-appointed, extending his contract till 2023.

Since 2012, Moreeng has helped the team make significant progress which includes reaching the semifinals of 2017 ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup in 2014 as well as 2020. The South African team has also gained a direct qualification for the next World Cup after finishing third in ICC Women’s Championship.

Hilton Moreeng is happy to train these young talented players and wants to make them compete for a top three world ranking with the aim of winning silverware for South Africa. Maintaining consistency on and off the field, the women’s team is ready to take on the upcoming international series and tours!
