We have all seen Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju become the talk of the town the moment it’s trailer and teaser came out. Ranbir Kapoor’s uncanny resemblance to Sanjay Dutt – a well-adored superstar who always found himself on the wrong side of the law – has shaken fans from their seats! The film has surrounded itself with many speculations and amazement ever since its announcement.

Here are few of the lesser known facts for you:

1. Known for his light-hearted, humour-filled, progressive thoughts, social messaging, palatable stories and visual treat type of films Rajkumar Hirani was originally not keen on doing the biopic which involved guns and underworld and seemed too dark. It was Manyata Dutt, wife of the Sanjay Dutt, who persuaded him to give his stories a try. Later Hirani found to be very amusing that he immediately called for his writing collaborator.

2. The most anticipated film of the town has the most anticipated star-cast too. With the star flooded casting which includes Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Karishma Tanna, Jim Sarbh and many more cameo roles yet to be revealed would be a treat to the eyes.

3. The spine of the story is the complicated yet dynamic relationship between the father and the son. Since most of Dutt’s life stories were out there, Hirani wanted to give the story a new and un-heard angle with his parents Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt’s prominent roles in the film.

4. Initially, the trailer was decided to launch on 8th May, the same day Sanjay Dutt’s debut film Rocky’s release in 1981. The movie was released 5 days after the death of his mother, Nargis Dutt, due to cancer.

Ranbir Kapoor has totally immersed himself in the role of Sanjay Dutt, so much that he went an extra mile to look like him by growing hair, putting on extra pounds, learning the mannerism and also worked for days to imitate his walking style. The teaser/trailer and song video have so far given us Kapoor donning different shades of Dutt – a tussle with narcotics, a jail incarceration, his bounce back with a ripped body, his days of playing super intense gangster-like parts, his Munnabhai days and life post his recent jail sentence.

6. The most speculated rumours are that the real life and reel life (Ranbir Kapoor) Sanjay Dutt would be shaking legs together for a promotional song, to be unveiled soon before the release.

7. A closer look at the teaser, which sure would have been a blink-and-miss, reveals a cameo of Arshad Warsi- from the famous ‘Munnabhai-Circuit’ friendship duo as Circuit.

8. Rajkumar Hirani has put his big project- Munna Bhai 3 with Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi on hold to share the captivating story of Sanju on celluloid.

9. The film would not have any of Dutt’s many rumoured affairs.

10. Sanjay has narrated many of his stories – travelling on a flight with heroin in his shoes, illegally storing weapons supplied by terrorists incriminated in the serial blast that shook Mumbai in 1993 etc – and Hirani claims that he has presented the unfiltered view as it is with no hidden facts.
