Indian 4*400m relay event team of Muhammed Anas, V K Vismaya, Jisna Mathew and Noah Nirmal Tom completed seventh in the World Athletics Championship, Doha, clocking three minutes and 15.77 seconds. Indian team faced several collisions and falls but managed to finish seventh by recovering themselves in the last few seconds. Earlier the team has finished third in the semi-finals in the 400m relay and made it to the list of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

 

 

While country’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand crashed out in the beginning round at 100m event and fell far behind her own best time of 11.26 seconds. Along with the World Championship title, Dutee also lost a spot in the 2020 Olympics event.

 

 

Meanwhile, MP Jabir finished fifth in 49.71 seconds in the Men’s 400m Hurdles semifinals and failed to qualify for the finals. Overall the first two days of Doha World Championship did not turn out to be good for India with the best of the players losing spots in the Olympics events.

However, the ongoing South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under 18 Championship ended with team India beating Bangladesh by 2-1 in the finals, lifting their maiden SAFF U-18 title at Kathmandu, Nepal. Taking the lead in the first two minutes of the match by a mindblowing goal from Vikram Pratap Singh and breaking the tie in 90+1 minutes with an impeccable goal from Ravi Bahadur Rana, team India performed brilliantly in the field.

 

 

Meanwhile, tennis star Sumit Nagal, who won million hearts with his performance in the Grand Slam and became the first Indian to win a set against Roger Federer, won the Buenos Aires ATP Challenger tour against Facundo Bagnis bringing his ranking to 135th position.
