French football manager and player, Gerard Houllier died in Paris at 73 after undergoing a heart surgery. Playing for Liverpool, he won the FA Cup, League Cup, FA Charity Shield, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super. Later on, he went on to manage clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Lens and Liverpool.

Gerard Houllier’s career was blighted by health problems and he had to take a break in his time at Liverpool to recover from heart issues. The former footballer was also in charge of the French national team from 1992 to 1993.

Playing an important role in shaping Liverpool, Gerard Houllier rebuilt the team by bringing a more disciplined and tactically savvy approach using more foreign-based players. Under his guidance, he launched one of Liverpool’s greatest players, Steven Gerrard.

Mourning Houllier’s death, Liverpool shared a special video as a tribute to the football legend on Twitter. Watch:
