Do you have a sweet tooth? If you are a person whose staple diet is full of desserts then we have bad news for you. Ditching a decade old tradition of naming its various releases after the names of desserts, making the users commit gluttony crime, Android has named its latest one as ‘Android 10’.

In their recent official update, Google announced the new name, putting an end to all the speculations of Quiche, Quesadilla, Quinoa or the drool worthy portugese sweet Queijadinha. Ending the most loved legacy, company justified their new naming scheme is to reach out to everyone. As a global operating system, it’s important that the names are clear and relatable because the dessert names are not that common in many parts of the world.

Along with it, they also wrote, “It’s even harder for new Android users, who are unfamiliar with the naming convention, to understand if their phone is running the latest version. We also know that pies are not a dessert in some places, and that marshmallows, while delicious, are not a popular treat in many parts of the world.”

With a less quirky name, the company has also made improvisation in the logo. The favourite green robot, symbolising fun and curiosity at the heart of Android is included in the logo now, making it more human and approachable for the world. With a more zoomed in face of green robo and eyes placed a bit down with less yellow hue, it stands next to the old logo which now is of black colour. Considering the viewpoint of visually impaired people, green used to be indistinguishable, so the new black stands out.

In a short video clip released by the company, the processes of all the changes made by the giant company can be seen with a fun background score.

The official rolling out of the updated logo will start from next month. Over the last decade, starting itself from the Cupcake Version, Android’s open platform has reached a global audience of 2.5 billion with their devices and apps.

Even though the company is trying to make their products more friendly to the world, we are sure we will miss the innovative delicacy names they used to come out with.
