We all know that Netflix collects information about its users, including their preference of the genre to deliver a better service and recommend the users to any update in the particular area. Now Netflix has also started tracking the physical activity of its user.

Last Friday, a security researcher on Twitter noticed that the Netflix Android app had added a menu asking for permission to access physical activity. When the online tech company, Next Web, reported the issue, Netflix said that it was “part of a test to see how [it] can improve video playback quality when a member is on the go.” It went on to state that it was only testing the feature on some accounts, and that there were no current plans to roll it out on a wider basis.

It seems Netflix is making use of new activity recognition permission on Android Q which lets the developer understand whether the user is in motion while using their apps.

With users increasingly watching Netflix on their phones while commuting, perhaps Netflix wants to deliver satisfaction to its more active users.

Well, it seems soon ‘Netflix and Chill’ phrase would be rolled out.
