Jiiva Is a part of ‘83’!

Jiiva’s form has been uncertain in the last couple of years. It has been over four years since he whipped out a super hit film even though he has been incessantly working in films. It looks like the actor has now gotten a golden break.

Kabir Khan’s next directorial, sports drama83, based on India’s iconic victory in the Cricket World Cup in the year 1983 has cast Tamil actor Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth. Ranveer Singh will be seen playing the character of former Indian cricket team skipper Kapil Dev under whose captaincy India won its first World Cup trophy.

Jiiva said however talking about the film that he has to lose seven kilograms to recognize the character. Jiiva revealed, ‘For this film, I am doing (outdoor) exercises instead of training in the gym, which is also aiding my prep for 83. I have a personal trainer who is helping me build my stamina. The workout routine is intense and there is a fair amount of cardiovascular training involved. (I’m focusing on) getting (Srikkanth’s) tinges and body language on point. I have started watching his videos online, and those of the ‘83 match as well.’

By sources, ‘The film’s director Kabir Khan was clear that he wanted to cast a Tamil actor for the role of Krishnamachari Srikkanth. He was looking for an actor who is young and talented and eventually found that in actor Jiiva. When he approached the actor for the part in October, Jiiva came on board instantly.’

Excitingly the role was going to be offered to Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda formerly. Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films and Vibri Media are co-operatively funding this big-budget film.
