On 8 August, Chinese electronics manufacturer BKK Electronics’ smartphone brand Realme announced their plans to launch three new smartphones in India. They confirmed that one of the smartphones will feature a 64-megapixel rear camera. Apart from this, they are launching two more devices, Realme Pro and Realme X series.

At its innovation event in New Delhi yesterday, Realme CEO Madhav Sheth confirmed that they will be the first brand to launch this in India. The device will arrive by Diwali, aiming at those who will upgrade their phones during the holiday shopping season.

The common thread among these devices will be the quad-camera setup that will sport a 64 megapixel primary sensor (GW1) sourced from Samsung. For the pricing, Sheth tweeted that the device will offer the best value in its price segment.

While the company did not provide any specifications, it presented several photographs captured through this camera set-up that hints about what one can expect. With the pictures taken in diverse lighting conditions, they are telling about the possible enhancements in low light photography. Other samples include ultra-wide shots and macro shots, which are taken through dedicated lenses.

Besides, the company also provided insights that they will use the pixel size of 1/1.72-inch and behind the sensor, tetracell technology will be used for clearer pictures in all light conditions. A telephoto lens for 2x optical zoom will also be a part of the package.

While the future of the smartphone seems promising along with affordable and midrange phones. It is still debatable to judge the camera’s performance based on the sensor’s megapixel count.
