A house is never just one thing. Each room holds its own mood, yet they all belong to the same home. This philosophy lies at the heart of 6 ROOMS. 1 HOUSE., the upcoming exhibition at 47 A. The exhibition is free and open to all. It opens to the public on 3rd of July.

Across its six distinct rooms, Srila Chatterjee has curated an immersive journey that bridges the traditional and the contemporary, celebrating the sheer breadth of Indian art.

Here is a glimpse of what each room holds:

Room 1: Universal Mother | A cross-cultural exploration of the maternal archetype, featuring representations like White Tara, Bahuchar Mata, and Mary through Bengal patachitra, mata ni pachedi, and mirror etching.

Room 2: Bombay Meri Jaan | A tribute to the Maximum City via fine watercolours that capture its chaotic, beautiful, and shifting nuances.

Room 3: Animal Kingdom | Traditional and modern hands turning their gaze toward the wild, urging us to look closer at the creatures we share our world with.

Room 4: Textile Talk | Following the literal and narrative threads of weaving, printing, and embroidery from Assam to Maheshwar and Kachchh.

Room 5: People Watching | Five artists explore the stories behind the face, inviting viewers to catch a glimpse of their own reflection.

Room 6: Out of the Box | A space dedicated to curiosity, featuring unexpected mediums like book sculpture, tea bag art, pinch pottery, and sholapith.

Srila strongly believes that art shouldn’t feel like an exclusive club. This show is a testament to the fact that Indian art is deep, alive, varied, and meant to be lived with.

About 47-A

47-A is a venue for art, craft, and design. It is set in one of our favourite places: the beautiful Khotachi Wadi, one of the original villages of Bombay, in the culturally historic area of Girgaum, rich in diversity and inclusiveness. 47-A Khotachi Wadi is a 19th-century Portuguese-style house, and its ground floor is now our gallery.
