India’s Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, Raveesh Kumar, took it to his social media handle and denied such claims in two tweets stating, “We have seen @POTUS‘s remarks to the press that he is ready to mediate if requested by India & Pakistan, on Kashmir issue. No such request has been made by PM @narendramodi to US President”. He further added that the issues are discussed with Pakistan bilaterally as per the Shimla agreement and the Lahore declaration.

Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor also responded to the matter, calling Trump to be clueless about his statement and should be informed by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

Calling Trump’s statement amateurish and delusional, Congressman Brad Sherman apologized to Indian ambassador Harsh Vardhan Shringala, saying, “Everyone who knows anything about foreign policy in South Asia knows that #India consistently opposes third-party mediation re #Kashmir. Everyone knows PM Modi would never suggest such a thing”.
