‘Spartacus’ Is No More

The legendary actor from the “Golden Age” of Hollywood, Kirk Douglas passed away at the age of 103. The shocking news came in when Michael Douglas took to his official social media handle to announce the demise of his father.

Along with the pictures in which we can have a glimpse of the close-knit family of Kirk, the son wrote a long note emphasizing on how the legendary actor was a great family man and a renowned philanthropist. Expressing his love for his deceased father, Michael’s heartfelt note ended with, “Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad- I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son. #KirkDouglas”.

Kirk Douglas is a historic name who spent over six decades in the Hollywood Industry bringing some iconic movies on the screen. Creating a legacy of his own, Kirk was honoured with Academy Awards four times in his life and he bagged his first nominations in Oscars with the 1949 movie ‘Champion’.

The man became a household name with his unforgettable dialogue “I am Spartacus” from Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 movie ‘Spartacus’, where he played the titular role. Once Kirk left his film career behind, he became an active blogger and was believed to be the oldest celebrity blogger of the world.

In his honour, the Academy Awards also shared a post that reads: “Goodbye to a Hollywood legend”, along with a childhood memory narrated by the actor.

“I wanted to be an actor ever since I was a kid in the second grade. I did a play, and my mother made a black apron, and I played a shoemaker. After the performance, [my father] gave me my first Oscar: an ice cream cone.” -Kirk Douglas
