New Delhi, September 2026: Thapar Contemporary, New Delhi, presents Sing. No Cry, a group exhibition bringing together nine artists whose practices embrace instinct, experimentation and the freedom to move beyond convention. On view until 15 October 2026, the exhibition is curated by Jasone Miranda-Bilbao and Vaibhav Raj Shah and brings together diverse approaches to image, material, space and experience.
Featuring Amikam Toren, Asha Vaidyanath, Basist Kumar, Holly Hendry, Katie Pratt, Rahul Papaniya, Shivangi Ladha, Vanita Gupta and Willa Hilditch, the exhibition takes its cue from the unruly spirit of David Lynch’s Wild at Heart, where freedom is closely tied to instinct, risk and a refusal to follow prescribed paths. In the context of artistic practice, being “wild at heart” is less about rebellion and more about trusting one’s impulses—whether in the choice of ideas, materials, forms or subjects.
The title Sing. No Cry speaks to the act of finding and holding on to one’s voice. To “sing” is to express, insist and create; “no cry” is not a denial of pain, but a refusal to allow it to silence that expression. Together, the words suggest a way of moving through uncertainty with openness rather than resignation.
“Art can test limits without announcing that it is doing so. It can create a quieter space where perception shifts, questions remain open and possibilities begin to emerge. In bringing these artists together, we were interested in that space of freedom— in practices that remain faithful to their own impulses rather than conforming to familiar structures or ways of seeing,” say curators Jasone Miranda-Bilbao and Vaibhav Raj Shah.
Across the exhibition, the participating artists pursue individual lines of inquiry rather than a shared visual language. Their works shift perspectives, challenge familiar associations and invite viewers to look more closely at what might otherwise go unnoticed. Together, they create a dialogue shaped by difference, experimentation and a willingness to remain open to possibility.
At its core, Sing. No Cry considers artistic freedom as an ongoing act of attention. To look differently, question what is accepted and follow an instinct without a predetermined destination can itself be a quiet form of resistance. The exhibition invites viewers to enter this space alongside the artists; without retreat and without needing all the answers.
