Indian skipper and former cricket captain, MS Dhoni has begun his training in the ‘Indian Army Parachute Regiment’ post ICC World Cup. On Wednesday, Dhoni joined the battalion, which has its headquarters in Bengaluru. He will be deployed in Kashmir as part of Victor Force from 31 July to 15 August. MS Dhoni will be taking on the duties of patrolling, guard and his post duty while staying with the troops.

The 38-year-old holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army Unit of the ‘Parachute Regiment’. The honour was accorded to him by the Indian Army in the year 2011. Dhoni was given this honour along with Abhinav Bindra and Deepak Rao. In 2015, Dhoni became a qualified paratrooper after having completed five parachute training jumps from Indian Army aircraft in the Agra training camp.

After team India’s loss in the World Cup semi-finals this year, Dhoni’s retirement was rumored. During the cricket team announcement of West Indies tour where India will be playing three T20s, three ODIs and two test matches, Dhoni’s name was missing. Clarifying the rumors of not retiring from the cricket, Mahi took a two-month sabbatical from cricket to serve his unit. This will also help in increasing awareness among the youth about the armed forces and inspire them to be a part of it.
