The actor’s official name is Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair, he is fondly called as Laletten by his fans. He was born on May 21, 1960, in Elanthoor village, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala.
The actor had conferred the title of ‘black belt’ in the World Taekwondo Headquarters, held at Seoul, South Korea.
Mohanlal is the first actor to receive the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India.
He has received five National Film Awards, nine Kerala State Film Awards and in 2001 he was honoured with the Padma Shri and honorary doctorate degree from the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in 2010 and by the University of Calicut in 2018.
Former Miss World, actress and model Aishwarya Rai Bachchan paired with Mohanlal in her debut movie Iruvar.
Mohanlal-starred movie Guru was the first South Indian movie to be selected for the official entry to the Oscars for nomination under the Best Foreign Film category.
He played the leading role in a silent movie titled Reflections, a short film directed by Bijoy Nambiar.
The movie Pulimurugan is the first Malayalam film to collect ₹ 100 crores at the box office.
Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Randamoozham will be made at a whooping budget of ₹ 1,000 crore.
A good number of his movies have been remade into Hindi films. This includes Drishyam, Boeing Boeing, Kireedam, Chitram, Vellanakalude Nadu, and Thenmavin Kombathu. His movie Manichitrathazhu was remade into four languages, including the Bhool Bhulaiyaa in Hindi.
He is an impeccable dancer and he played the character of a trained classical dancer in Kamaladhalam and a seasoned Kathakali artist in Vanaprastham.
