The journey of Volkswagen Beetle, also known as Bug by English-speaking population, came to an end after a run of 80 years. Last Beetle Car rolled out of the assembly line in Puebla, Mexico, on Wednesday. Till date three generations of Beetles have come, giving the company a huge control over the automobile market across the world. However, third generation Beetle could not make its impact among the people. In the era of SUVs and sedans, retro cars like beetle got side-lined.

The type 1 of the Beetle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and approved by Adolf Hitler, to boost the economy of Germany, putting up a show of supremacy in automobile industry. Soon after its appearance in 1938, Beetle received huge appreciation for its low maintenance and unique design.

Over the years, Beetle went through only two redesigning process, maintaining its personality. The car is known for its retro design which got its hippiness after entering the American market. Beetle is the most loved one across the globe in the history of cars. Volkswagen ended the production of Beetles last year which resulted in a huge surge in its demand.

End of beetle marks a turning point for Volkswagen, as the company is turning to the production of electrical cars and SUVs for American market.

Surrounded by the proud factory worker and mariachi band, last denim coloured Beetle drove off on the road in the sunset. It will be put on display at the Volkswagen Museum in Puebla, Mexico. Third generation Beetles will be sold on Amazon in a move symbolizing the company’s embrace of the future.
